AI Will Widen the Gap Between Nations
A new report from Türkiye’s National Intelligence Academy (MIA) warns that AI, advanced semiconductors, critical minerals, and data will shape the global balance of power in the 21st century. According to the report, countries that rely solely on AI developed by others will become increasingly dependent on those controlling the technology and its supply chains.
The report also highlights critical minerals such as rare earths, lithium, and gallium, essential for producing advanced chips and building AI infrastructure. This suggests that the AI race is, in reality, a race to control strategic resources, manufacturing capacity, and data.
AI demands an exceptionally high level of scientific and technological capability, from fundamental research and chip design to computing infrastructure. As a result, the gap between technologically advanced nations and those lagging behind is likely to widen further. In the AI era, technological leadership may become harder to close than at any previous stage of industrial development.
